Monaghan
MONAGHAN, an incorporated market-town and parish, the chief town of the county, and formerly a parliamentary borough, in the barony and county of MONAGHAN, and province of ULSTER, 12¼ miles, (W. S. W.) from Armagh city, and a 60 (N. N. W,) from Dublin city, on the mail coach road to Londonderry; containing 11,875 inhabitants, of which number, 3848 are in the town.

BALLYBAY, a market and post-town, and a parish, partly in the barony of MONAGHAN, but chiefly in that of CREMORNE, county of MONAGHAN, and province of ULSTER, 8 miles (S. by E.) from Monaghan town, and 50 miles (N.W. by N.) from Dublin city; containing 6685 inhabitants, of which number, 1947 are in, the town.
