HERITAGE

On the first floor of An Eaglais we have incorporated a Local Heritage area. We have exhibits about local Towns, People and Culture. Currently we are exhibiting Artifacts, Photographs and Information on Down to Monaghan, Farming in two Counties, in bygone days.

Exhibition Just Finished. Magic Miles In Monaghan

If you click on this link you will see some Photographs of Localiities which featured in the exhibition which has just finished and we include on our website information on our last exhibition, a Brochure "Magic Miles in Momaghan"  shows some of the information included in the exhibition, the Railway System in Monaghan from when it started until it closed in 1958.

We are currently working on a Timeline of our area in South Monaghan going back to Neolithic times. When this is completed we will mount an Exhibition and Short Film giving details of all our research.

There is great local and national interest in history and the McMahon family were rulers in this area before, during and after the arrival of “the pale”.

The visitor books on the first floor have been signed by thousands of visitors from all over the world and we would be delighted to welcome you to any of the many and varied Exhibitions that take place in our Centre.

We would like to mention and thank Noel Breakey and Andy Hogg (Photo) from Monaghan County Museum who design, produce and install some of the exhibits that run in An Eaglais.

Exhibitions change quite often, so if you are passing or just want to pass an hour or two in cosy and welcoming surroundings, call in to see us, we know you will be glad you did.

We have some books that can help with family and property information in the local area. We cannot let these books out of An Eaglais but we will be delighted to let you look through them.
